Metal Testing
Optical Emission Spectrometry (OES)
The workhorse of the metal analysis laboratory. Provides fast and precise analysis for metal samples in solid form able to be placed in the instrument. This Thermo 3460 is one of only a handful of such instruments in the world capable of analyzing metals and alloys of iron, steel, copper, aluminium, tin, lead, nickel and magnesium base.
Calibrated with in excess of 1,000 reference standards to ensure accurate analysis.
MetalTest has 3 of these instruments available ensuring your analysis requirements can be met at all times.
Flame Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry (FAAS)
This instrument analyses metals that have been suitably dissolved. Now considered to be a primary method of analysis replacing the traditional wet analysis techniques such as gravimetric and titration.
Suitable for samples not able to be analysed by OES or where the analysis of an uncommon element is required.
This is the instrument that is used extensively to control the analyses by OES.
Microhardness Tester
The LECO LM700AT microhardness tester is used to determine hardness of small samples and to conduct microhardness traverses on surface hardened steels to measure the depth of case hardening etc.
Metallurgical Microscope
Allows for suitably prepared samples to be examined with magnification up to 1,000 times for identification of phases, surface coating thicknesses and deleterious features that have resulted in failures etc.
Also used to determine the depth of corrosion for brasses submitted for dezincification resistance testing.
